Nervous Patients Welcome
It’s okay to feel anxious β you’re not alone, and you’re in the right place
More than half of our patients felt nervous before their first visit. Some hadn’t seen a dentist in over a decade. We understand β and we’ve built our entire practice around making dental care feel safe, calm, and completely on your terms.
You’re Not Alone
Dental anxiety is more common than you think
Whether it’s a past bad experience, fear of pain, embarrassment about the state of your teeth, or simply the sounds and smells of a dental surgery β your feelings are completely valid. We hear these concerns every single day, and we never, ever judge.
At Monkfield Dental, we don’t see nervous patients as a problem to manage. We see you as someone who deserves extra care, extra time, and extra kindness. That’s exactly what we provide.

Your Comfort Comes First
How we make dental visits feel different
Longer Appointments
We allocate more time for every nervous patient β no rushing, no pressure. If you need to pause, we pause. Your appointment is yours.
Stop Signals
You’re always in control. Raise your hand at any point and we stop immediately β no questions asked. You set the pace.
Step-by-Step Explanations
We explain everything before we do it. No surprises, no sudden movements. You’ll know exactly what’s happening and why.
A Calm Environment
No crowded waiting rooms. No clinical smell. Our practice is designed to feel more like a calm, private space than a busy surgery.

No Surprises
What to expect at your first appointment
1
A chat first, not a chair
We start with a conversation β not an examination. Tell us what you’re worried about, how long it’s been, what would make you feel comfortable. We listen first.
2
A gentle examination at your pace
When you’re ready, we’ll carry out a thorough but gentle check-up. Digital X-rays, an oral health assessment, and a check for anything that needs attention. If you need a break, just tell us.
3
Honest answers, no pressure
We’ll explain what we’ve found in plain English β no jargon, no scare tactics. If treatment is needed, we’ll give you a clear written plan with costs. You decide if and when to proceed.
4
Your next steps, on your terms
Whether you want to book your next visit straight away or take some time to think, that’s completely fine. We’re here when you’re ready.

Your Dentist
Dr Ricardo Macedo
“I became a dentist because I genuinely enjoy helping people. But over the years, some of my most rewarding moments have been with patients who came to us terrified β and left feeling relieved, cared for, and even smiling.
I take extra time with anxious patients because I believe everyone deserves good dental care, regardless of how they feel about the dentist. If you’ve been putting it off, I understand. And I promise we’ll make it as easy as possible for you.”

Questions nervous patients often ask us
Never. Many of our patients come to us after 5, 10, even 20 years away from the dentist. There’s no judgement here β only genuine care and a plan to get your oral health back on track at a pace that works for you.
We’ll never overwhelm you with a long list of treatments. If work is needed, we’ll prioritise what matters most and spread it over multiple appointments so nothing feels rushed or stressful. You’re always in control of what happens and when.
We use modern anaesthetics and gentle techniques. Most patients tell us they felt far less than they expected. And remember β you can stop at any time by raising your hand.
Absolutely. You’re welcome to bring a friend, partner, or family member into the treatment room with you for support.
That’s completely okay. We have stop signals in place and we’ll never make you feel embarrassed about needing a break. Some patients take several short appointments to complete what could be done in one β and that’s perfectly fine.
We don’t currently offer IV sedation, but our calm approach, longer appointments, and step-by-step communication mean that most nervous patients manage comfortably without it. If you feel you need sedation, we can discuss referral options.
